Research Group Functional Nanophotonics

We investigate cutting-edge nanophotonic devices for light-matter coupling, biosensing, and 2D materials research.

About us

We are the Research Group Functional Nanophotonics at LMU Munich led by Prof. Andreas Tittl. Working in state-of-the-art facilities in the recently established Nanoinstitute Munich, we aim to realize and develop new nanophotonic functionalities through advances in optical metasurfaces, with applications ranging from biochemical spectroscopy, strong light-matter coupling, energy conversion, and quantum light generation. A central focus of our research is the emerging concept of photonic bound states in the continuum (BICs), which allow us to develop spectrally selective metasurfaces with ultrasharp resonances ideally suited for boosting photonic interactions at the nanoscale.
