Study Program in Detail
The program can be started in the winter semester as well as in the summer semester. The language of instruction is English. The standard length of study is 4 semesters (120 ECTS credits).
Structure of the study program
- In the 1st and 2nd semesters, mandatory modules, elective modules as well as a course for the acquisition of key qualifications are attended.
- The one-year Master's project takes place in the 3rd and 4th semesters. It consists of the following parts:
- Research Project in Metreology, Phase I (15 ECTS credits)
- Research Project in Metreology, Phase II (15 ECTS credits)
- Master's Thesis (30 ECTS credits)

The following mandatory moduls must be chosen:
- Advanced Atmospheric Physics (9 ECTS credits)
- Advanced Atmospheric Dynamics (9 ECTS credits)
- Discussion of Current Research Questions on Advanced Meteorology (Seminar) (3 ECTS credits)
Elective modules must be taken to the extent of 36 ECTS credits. They are offered in the following variants: Lecture with exercise (4 SWS or 6 ECTS credits) or lecture without exercise (2 SWS or 3 ECTS credits).
Selection Rule: At least 3 of the following elective modules (each 6 ECTS credits) must be chosen:
- Atmospheric Modeling
- Theoretical Meteorology from the Weather to the Climate Scale
- Experimental Meteorology - Clouds, Aerosols, Gases
- Atmoshperic Data Analysis Methods
- Current Research Topics in Theoretical Meteorology
Key qualifications
A module for the acquisition of key qualifications (3 ECTS points) must be taken. A language course in a modern foreign language can also be included. Further information can be found on the pages of the Examinations Office.
