LMUnimousity Represents Germany at the International Physicists’ Tournament

25 May 2026

Starting May 26, LMU Munich‘s team will compete in the USA against 20 teams from around the world for the title.

After successfully laying the foundation at the German finals, the delegation now faces the challenge of competing against 20 international teams: Following their victory at the German Physicists’ Tournament (GPT), held in January at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, Felix Barth, Jonas Köllermeyer, Joachim Miesner, Marianna Ruggeri, Viktor Sundström, Benjamin Thiel, and Rushana Yakupova, under the supervision of Dr. Jürgen Durst, will take part in the International Physicists’ Tournament (IPT) 2026 at Oklahoma State University starting May 26.

There, university teams will present their research findings and engage in critical discussions in so-called “Physics Fights.” The challenges require not only in-depth knowledge of physics, but also creativity in problem-solving and the ability to successfully defend solutions in scientific debate. A jury consisting of doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers will evaluate the competitions, and after three rounds, the winning team will be crowned next Saturday.

We wish our “LMUnimousity” students every success and the necessary bit of luck!
