Emiliano Cortés, Professor of Experimental Physics and Energy Conversion at LMU, has been named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). Fellowship is the highest category of membership in the prestigious British scientific society and recognizes outstanding scientific achievements and contributions to the advancement of chemistry worldwide.
Cortés leads the “Nanomaterials for Energy” research group at LMU. Working at the intersection of chemistry and physics, he develops novel nanomaterials that could help produce sustainable energy and address the challenges of climate change. One focus of his research is making more efficient use of sunlight through specially designed photonic nanostructures, for example, to produce green hydrogen. His research has received several million euros in funding from the European Research Council (ERC), among other sources. Cortés also serves on the scientific advisory board of the Center for NanoScience (CeNS) and the excecutive board of the e-conversion Cluster of Excellence at LMU and the Technical University of Munich (TUM). He has also co-founded two spin-off companies. Continue
