Karina Avila’s research is centered on enhancing learning in STEM fields through the use of online tools. These tools encompass gamification, artificial intelligence, and automated feedback systems.
Karina Avila completed her Bachelor’s degree in Physics at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Mexico in 2007. She later obtained her Master’s (2010) and Ph.D. degree (2014) at Ohio University in the USA, specializing in Condensed Matter Theory. She then worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the same field at the University of Gottingen (2014-2015), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2015-2017), and at the RPTU Kaiserslautern (2018-2021). Her work focused on molecular dynamics simulations, numerical simulations, modeling, and data analysis in condensed matter, specifically in complex systems such as glasses and avalanche dynamics. At the end of 2021, she transitioned to educational research, where her primary focus was to develop and design online tools for STEM education. Additionally, she conducted research on the educational benefits of these online tools.
